Helene Zgagowski As a child, I was exposed to the arts in some quite unusual and thrilling ways. My parents were the single greatest influence in my early years and helped spark my interest in the arts. They took my four siblings and me on innumerable outings to New York City museums, art galleries, outdoor concerts and ballets. There were also frequent Sunday afternoon visits to Greenwich Village. Walking through Washington Square Park was fascinating and exciting, with folk singers filling the air with music and song, and poets reciting their insightful phrases. Watching the artists paint their canvas creations was quite memorable. The sight, sound and belief in the Bohemian way of life have left an impression on me to lead a life as a creative person...an artist!

Much of my work is inspired by my surroundings, whether it is nature, old barns, sailboats or everyday objects. I experience great satisfaction interpreting what I see in my own unique and imaginative way. Using beautiful color combinations to invoke harmony, I strive to accomplish a distinctive look.

By freeing my mind and spirit using bright bold strokes, I let my brush have its way...creating moods of excitement or serenity... sometimes by chance, mistakes develop into a new technique which adds interest and vitality to my subject.
